Who are we?
The Am HaYam Cape Cod Havurah is a community of Jews in the lower Cape Cod area who
pray, celebrate, study and socialize together. We are a member-led, highly
participatory group, and all services and activities are coordinated by group
members. We value and practice egalitarian principles in our liturgy as well as
in our organization. Our membership consists of singles, couples and families;
all are welcome to attend our events.

The purpose of Am HaYam is to promote Jewish fellowship, traditions, culture
and education. We welcome individuals and families of diverse backgrounds. Our
activities involve the leadership and. participation of both men and. women. We
encourage member participation in worship, discussion groups, Torah study and
all committee activities. Membership in Am HaYam is open to each individual who
supports the purpose of the organization and who requests that his or her name
be added to the mailing list. Our annual budget is derived entirely from
voluntary tax deductible contributions. Become part of the Am HaYam community.
Come and participate in activities . . . join a working committee and give us
your energy and time . . . suggest an activity and we'll do our best to help
you implement it. Add your name to our mailing list to receive our newsletter
and learn more about our many activities and educational events.
What do we do?
We celebrate Erev Shabbat together approximately once a month, at the Chapel-in-the-Pines, Eastham , (but check the newsletter for details). A typical Friday night
service includes a member-led service which includes traditional prayers,
creative readings, and music. After the blessings over wine and challah, an
Oneg Shabbat allows the group to mix and socialize. Each Erev Shabbat service
is different as it is designed by the service leader for the evening. Any
member can sign up to lead services, or to provide music for a service.
What else do we do?
We celebrate many of the Jewish holidays together as
a community and come together for social, educational and social action events.
The Am HaYam discussion group, Rosh Chodesh, and Torah Study meet approximately
every month. See the list of contacts to find out
where to ask for more information on any particular activity. We also take
great pride in our Children's Study
programs and Bar and Bat Mitzvah training.
How do we work?
Am HaYam committees drive the programs and
activities that keep the Havurah vibrant for its members. There are 10 major committees focussed on Jewish interests that include Newsletter,
Torah Study, Tzedakah, Ritual, Adult Education, High Holy Day, Special
Events, Tzedakah, Discussion Groups, Rosh Chodesh, Finance.
